Steam 28 Oct 2026, plus two press scores

AETHUS review: is it worth it?

On 28 October 2026 Steam showed 94% of 1,847 English reviews, Very Positive, and 97% of 37 recent reviews. Games Press says 2,000+ reviews at 94% across languages. The official site still said 1,846. Those are three clocks, not one fight.

This is a review roundup with an editorial buying recommendation, not a hands-on review. Steam review counts are dated platform data. Buried Treasure and Gameffine provide separate critical opinions; their scores are not averaged into a site rating.

Should you buy it?

Editorial recommendation: try the free demo if you want a solo, story-led mining and base-building game. The reviews favor exploration, crafting and the narrative; players looking for co-op or combat should compare those preferences with the single-player feature list. This is a public-source recommendation, not a claim of hands-on play.

What the reviews agree on

Buried Treasure calls it combat-free. The Games Press release says the game is not built around combat. The Steam store text does not say "no combat", so I will not claim there is zero hazard. Environmental danger is the loop both reviews describe. Strengths they name: modular bases, Scottish voice work, the prospecting loop. Weaknesses: a long walk in the first half, fall damage, a linear spine, and graphics that are stylized rather than spectacular.

Price, length, and what it is not

List price is $19.99. The same Steam page was discounted to $13.99 that day. A pre-release developer post said $15.99. There is a free demo. HowLongToBeat's main-story figure is 30 hours 45 minutes from 4 people. That sample is too small to treat as a promise. Sales are not public. A Steam news post said 15,000+ players and 500+ reviews in the first week. That is one developer post. It is not Early Access, and the press kit says no generative AI and no microtransactions or battle passes. Two paid cosmetic and soundtrack DLCs exist. They are not a battle pass. It is not No Man's Sky and not Deep Rock Galactic. Those are different genres. I am not publishing a feature matrix I cannot source.

Questions

Was AETHUS in Early Access?

No. Steam and the press kit both describe a 1.0 launch on 6 March 2026.

What is the Metacritic score?

There is no Metascore yet. One critic review is listed. Buried Treasure's 86 is that outlet's score, not a Metascore.
