Layout, power, water, storage

AETHUS base building

Put the outpost against the main cave mouth. Habitats only connect through an airlock or a door seal. Euchale reports shared power and storage across the outpost; shared distribution does not mean one cell has unlimited output.

The layout below is an editorial arrangement based on short cave runs and the community shared-power/storage description. It is a schematic, not a measured floor plan. Snapping controls are taken from the readable official 1.025 and 1.026 notes (one publisher source).

What to build, and the keys

Manufacturing Hub is the one players treat as mandatory because it unlocks recipes. Welfare, Storage, and Greenhouse are optional in that same guide, which is one player's priority list, not a developer order. Press B to build. V cycles snap points on multi-door parts (patch 1.025). Hold Shift to turn snap off (patch 1.026). Storage snapping landed in 1.026 as well.

  • Water: Dew Catcher or Water Pump. Hotfix 9 removed the Scrap cost on the Dew Catcher.
  • Clear rock with a Terraforming Charge. Default throw is R. Drops are Regolith, Scrap, and Sandstone.
  • Oxygen Dome is listed as 2 Oxite + 1 Kalynite Bar. Mk2 adds more Oxite, a Kalynite Bar, and Basic Electronics. That recipe is single-source.

Three sites, not a ranking

Cave mouth: shortest walk back when oxygen is low. Oasis: water is closer, the cave run is longer. Meteor crater: crate 0155 is beside you, and the elevator quest in the store screenshot is on that plateau. No official module size chart exists, so this page does not draw a fake grid.

A compact starting layout

Editorial schematic, not measured game geometry: cave return → airlock → Core Habitat → processing and storage. Attach a Manufacturing Hub through a valid connector and keep the water setup accessible. Reserve a free connector for expansion; keep decorative items away from travel paths.

Plan the first power and water step

For one Power Cell the community baseline is 1 Basic Electronics + 2 Kalynite Frames + 5 Solazine; see /materials/power-cell/ for source limits. Check the actual station before spending a whole expedition on one ingredient. Dew Catcher and Water Pump are separate water options; no complete public pump bill of materials was verified here.

Questions

Does storage silo capacity have an official number?

No public capacity figure. Patch 1.026 added storage snapping. The guides talk about a Storage Bay or Hub, not a numbered silo size.

Is power per-room?

No. Euchale states storage and power are shared across the entire outpost.
